Sophomores at five Manchester high schools now have the opportunity to learn leadership skills in a program modeled on Leadership New Hampshire, thanks, in part, to efforts by West principal Bob Baines, Board of Directors chair Claira Pirozzi Monier ('58), and teacher Carolyn Somma. Named for Manchester's own fast-food pioneers, The Richard and Maurice McDonald Youth Leadership Program is open to students from Central, West, Memorial, Trinity and Derryfield schools.
Upon completing the program, which began with a September retreat and includes five day-long sessions throughout the year with programs presented by state and local leaders, participants are expected to take leader ship roles in their schools and communities. There is no charge to participate in The McDonald Leadership Program, thanks to support from the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, The Ronald McDonald House Chari ties, the Norwin S. and Elizabeth Bean Foundation, the Manchester Rotary Club, and For Manchester.

Want to get in touch with long-lost buddies from your days at West? It's as easy as logging on to www.westhighschool.org! Thanks to the efforts of teacher Jim Pingree and librarian Terry Villemure, West's Web site finally has a permanent home.
Just click on "Students and Alumni" and you're on your way to finding out about old friends from West. Instructions here will direct you to www.aaroncaine.com/gradpage, a page set up by Aaron Caine ('97) and Laura McKeon ('97). There you can find e-mail and Web addresses, along with college information, for everyone who's registered.
If you're not yet registered but want to be, send an e-mail to joinalumnimail@westhighschool.org. If you'd like to write a page about your class for the West Web site, send e-mail to westhighschool@westhighschool.org. In the subject line, make sure to write "Information on class of ___ "

Your help is needed to maintain special programs and services that contribute to the unique education students receive at West. The costs of these programs and services are beyond what's covered by tax dollars, but are essential if West is to strive to reach its goal as the premiere public school in the state.
Among the opportunities you can help provide to students are:
- Career counseling
- Tutorial programs
- Computer labs
- Leadership development
- Character education programs
- Student development scholarships
- Visiting artist programs
Send your tax-deductible contributions to West High School Endowment Fund, Office of the Principal, Manchester High School West, 9 Notre Dame Avenue, Manchester, N.H. 03102.
You may also write to this address or call 624-6384 for information on making a bequest in your will. One West alumni who did, and to whom we are grateful, is Angela McCullough. Thanks to her foresight, the Angela McCullough Fund is now available to assist needy students with their college tuition.
