CHEMISTRY (L3)

This teacher's objectives are that students will:

  • become and remain independent learners,
  • develop skills, abilities, and attitudes enabling them to better understand themselves and their environment
  • grasp the special relationship between science and their everyday-life
Everyone's work will be easier if the following rules are respected:
  1. Students' responsibilities
    • recognize and accept responsibility for their attitude, their words, their actions, their achievements, success and failures
    • recognize and respect the rights and properties of other persons (student or teacher)
    • apply the major rule of communication: only one person speaks at one given time

  2. Teacher' responsibilities
    • provide a safe environment conducive of learning.
    • provide adequate and updated information in chemistry, physical science and related topics
    • reward or sanction students' work and behavior according to merit.
  3. Tips to avoid troubles
    • Come to class PREPARED
      1. Bring covered textbook, notebook (3-ring binder please), paper, pen, pencils (sharpened), and other supplies requested by the teacher.
      2. Bring your assignment on the due date.
      3. All notes, hand-outs, classwork, homework etc. must have a heading showing name, date, and period, and must be bound securely in chronological order in the notebook.

      Notebooks will be checked regularly.

    • Come to class On time. A student is tardy if not properly seated when the bell rings. Consequence for unexcused tardy : detention.
    • Respect the code of conduct and rules of Manchester West High School
    • Follow all lab safety guidelines.
  4. Make up work (check board) for absent students
    • It is your responsibility to get the needed work.
    • assignments due on the day of absence are expected on the day the student returns.
    • assignments missed because of the absence must be handed in within the allotted time period (2 days/ day of absence)
    • labs or tests are to be made up on the next science make-up day (Thursday)
  5. Extra- Help : is available on Thursday after school or any other day of the week by appointment
  6. Laboratories.
    • are an important part of this class.
    • must be performed with the observance of all safety guidelines. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.
    • students must achieve a perfect score on a laboratory safety exam before being admitted to any lab activity.
  7. The grade for each quarter will reflect everything the student does, and will be based on:
    - tests and quizzes (announced and unannounced)
    - labs
    - exercises, classwork, homework
  8. SINKS and DRAINS are not a garbage can; do not throw papers in them.

    Have a great school year.
