MANCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL WEST

Finite Math

COURSE: Finite Math

INSTRUCTOR: Mrs. Russell

Welcome to my class! I am looking forward to being your teacher this year. Here is an outline of my basic expectations of you during the time we are together.

DAILY REQUIREMENTS

  1. A pencil and eraser
  2. Your notebook (a three ring binder type)
  3. A calculator (scientific type if possible)

MAKEUP AND EXTRA HELP

I will be available for makeup and extra help on Monday after school in room 323. I will be available most Thursdays and the day before a test as well. Please be sure to come in for help whenever you feel confused. Even a few minutes can often help relieve the situation.

If you are absent, you have one week to make up the homework that was assigned that day. If you are absent for a test, you have one week from the day that the test was given to make up that test. Any homework assignment or test not made up within that time frame will be recorded as a grade of ZERO! Please be very aware of any makeup work that you owe. Failure to make up assignments and tests is the number one cause of poor grades.

HOMEWORK

Homework will be assigned almost every night and checked the following class day. You may only make up homework if you were absent that day it was assigned. Homework must be done in pencil and be kept in your notebook. Homework will be graded as follows:

  • 100% - if the assignment was completely done and all work shown
  • 50% - if the assignment was partially done or work was not shown
  • 0% - if the assignment was not done at all

Homework not done in pencil will receive half credit.

NOTEBOOK

You are expected to keep a well organized notebook. All notes, homework, handouts, and tests are to be kept in your notebook in order by date. Be sure to record the date on everything! There will be five (5) unannounced notebook quizzes during each quarter, which are worth 20 points each. Remember that notebook quizzes must be done in pencil or you will lose five points off your grade.

CHEATING

Anyone caught cheating or helping someone else to cheat on a test or assignment will receive a 0 (zero) for that test or assignment .

GRADING SYSTEM

  1. Test grades count as one 100 point grade.
  2. Notebook quizzes combine to be one 100 point grade.
  3. Your homework average counts as one 100 point grade.

Grades will be posted and updated weekly after the first test of the marking period. New grade sheets will be posted on Mondays or the first day of school for the week. You are responsible for checking these grade sheets to keep track of your grades as well as checking for any makeup work that is owed.

TESTS

We will have at least one test almost every week in this class. Remember tests must be done in pencil. Tests not done in pencil will have 10 points deducted from your test grade. I am always available for extra help after school the day before the tests. Remember, if you are absent for a test, be sure to arrange for make up as soon as possible (up to one week from the day of the test).

CLASS DISCIPLINE

You will find that I am not the type of teacher to put up with any disruptions. I take my job seriously and spend a considerable amount of time preparing to teach my classes. I expect the same of you.

Basically, all school rules and policies are my policies as well. Cut slips will be turned in for any student not in class without a valid reason. Absolutely NO food, drink, or gum is allowed in the classroom.

Please remember the absence policy. Seven (7) or more counting absences from the class results in an automatic failure for that quarter. Three (3) times tardy to the class counts as one absence. You are late to class if the bell has rung and the door is shut.

CONCLUSION

I am anticipating a successful year with you. My main goal is to see that all for you do well in this course. Math can be enjoyable and is absolutely essential for success in the future.

Please share this expectations sheet with your parent(s) or guardian and have them fill out and return the information sheet provided.

Thank you and have a great year!
