COURSE GOALS:
Television Production Staff education at West High School is ...
to develop visual and tactile perceptual skills necessary for and individual's sensitivity to his/her visual environment through television.
to cultivate intellectual powers necessary for making and justifying discriminating judgments in television and audio production.
to develop adults who have an involvement with and commitment to audio and video as a communication form.
to develop respect for the originality of expression and response of self and others in regard to audio/ visual images.
to develop manipulative and organizational skills which facilitate expressive audio/ visual ideas.
to have the opportunity to express creative abilities and the nurturing of special talents, capabilities, and interests in television production.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
TV STAFF I (L3)
1/2 Credit - Full Year
Requirements: Appointment by Instructor
This course will introduce the methods and techniques of television production and audio mixing. The course stresses the production of Westview: a daily live news show, and audio and video for school events. Preproduction, camera operation, video switching, graphics, video composition, video color theory, audio, animation, set design and lighting are introduced. Linear and non-linear editing will complete the video process. Students will occupy jobs as producer, director, assistant director, production assistant, audio engineer, lighting designer, gaffer, technical director, videotape operator, camera operator, set designer, graphic coordinator, set construction and grip. Career opportunities within the video communication industries will be discussed. The student will be required to produce a daily live news show and set up and run the audio for school events. (Class limited to 10 students.)

PARENT/GUARDIAN INVOLVEMENT:
Parents/ Guardians and teachers work as a team in the education of the students. Parents/ Guardians are encouraged to meet and/or talk with teachers on a regular basis throughout the school year. We look forward to working with the parents/ guardians in anyway that will promote the education of the students.

MAKEUP/ EXTRA HELP:
Students will be able to come for makeup and extra help on Wednesday from the close of school until 3:30 P.M. Other times may be available by appointment, but all effort should be made to come on Wednesdays.

GRADING PROCEDURE:
Quarter grades will be made up from the production of Westview, test, class assignments, Westview specials, audio/ visual for school events and class participation. Class participation, work, critiquing, clean up etc. may count as a project grade. Semester grade will include the mid term or final.
Westview Job Assignment: 60%
Special Projects: 20%
Tests: 10%
Participation: 10%

NOTEBOOK:
Students will keep a three ring binder to hold handouts and notes and this will be evaluated four times each quarter.

PORTFOLIO:
Students will keep a portfolio of their work which will included class assignments and projects
