Full Year Course (L3)
Students study drawing techniques through the academic applications of skills in a variety of media introduced in the class. Beginning with simple line the students explore "new" ways of "seeing" and evaluating the visual world. Value will be studied in several exercises in various media. Space and texture are incorporated and used in drawings to create personalized statements. Students work with color in traditional and non-traditional ways to further enhance their growing skills in this two-dimensional course. Drawing from still-lives, the study of portraiture and visual problem solving are some of the challenges students undertake in class. Students are encouraged to develop a personal response to their work and selected media to create individualized works of art. Students also learn to critique and evaluate their own work and the work of their peers in a constructive manner.
Homework assignments are presented at the beginning of each quarter. Homework is passed in on a weekly basis and serves to extend and practice the drawing skills which are developing in class.
Grades are based on the completion of in class projects, homework, written quizzes and tests, class participation and studio behavior (this includes the proper handling and care of materials).
