The Steele Award is given to a member of the community who promotes educational growth. This person demonstrates the ideals of the national honor society including character, leadership, scholarship, and service.
1998-
The first recipient of the award was West's current Principal, Janice
Thompson. She is an Active and dedicated member of NHS and has promoted her ideas to help the community. She represents NHS in the 1st district.
1999-
Ms. Boselli received the award for organizing the construction of the brick walkway in the patio. She has been a school advisor for over 7 years and has been a member of the faculty counsel for over 10 years.
2000-
Mr. Edwards was a science teacher at West High School for years.
He was also an advisor to NHS for 5 years. He received the award
the year of his retirement.
2001-
Mr. Rick Grolieu received the award as recognition in his involvement with the SNHU Partnership program. He works with
Parkside and West.
2002-
Ms. Cathy Cook from the Chamber of commerce received the award as recognition for her position as an education coordinator. She has enhanced
NHS ideas with in the community.
2003-
Ms. Amanda Lecaroz is the principal of Parkside Middle School. She introduced the first NJHS into her school and has encouraged other schools.
2004-
Mrs. Linda Remillard is an English teacher at Parkside middle
school. She started the Parkside NJHS chapter and is the current
advisor.
2005-
Mrs. Sweezy was awarded the Steele award for her hard work and
dedication to the students at West high school. Mrs. Sweezy was
the head of the guidance department.
2006- Ms. Mary Ellen McGorry received
the Steele Award for her commitment to West. She first served as
an English teacher and then as an assistant principal, and is
currently the interim principal of West High School.
2007- 1st Sergeant John David Pereira is
a Naval Science Instructor at West. He received the Steele Award
for his service to his school, community, and country.
