Below are the listed expected learning areas by instructor and quarter. The SNSI and NSI will swap schedules each quarter.
1st Quarter:
NS I with NSI: Close Order Drill, The NJROTC program
NS II with SNSI: Citizenship, Meteorology and Weather
NS III with NSI: Leadership, Sea Power/National Security, Military Justice
NS IV with SNSI: S.W. Asia Country Study, Islamic Fundamentalist Impact
2nd Quater:
NS I with SNSI: Foundations of our Government, Naval Ships/Naval Aviation
NS II with NSI: Close Order Drill, Leadership, Cold Weather Safety/Survival, Naval History: 1812-WWI
NS III with SNSI: Astronomy, International Law and the Sea
NS IV with NSI: Leadership, Organizational Skills
3rd Quarter:
NS I with NSI: Close Order Drill, Manual Of Arms, Leadership, Physical Fitness, Naval History: Up to 1812
NS II with SNSI: Naval Shipboard Organization, Naval Weapons, Maritime Geography-Naval Fundamentals and Rules of the Road
NS III with NSI: Cold Weather Safety/Survival Review, Naval History: WWII, How To Conduct Drill
NS IV with SNSI: Gulf War Study, Afghanistan Study, College/Life Preparation
4th Quarter:
NS I with SNSI: Oceanography, Intro to Navigation and Time, Basic Seamanship
NS II with NSI: Leadership, Military Life
NS III with SNSI: Naval Operations, Communications and Intelligence
NS IV with NSI: Land Navigation/Orienteering, Naval History: Korean War, Vietnam War
The above areas of instruction are mainly units of instruction from the appropriate Naval Science text. Each presented will count as a test grade.
Overall grading is done with equal weight of the following areas:
Homework Assignments (Average)
Uniform Inspections (Average)
Notebook Completeness
2-3 Test Grades
In addition to the above grading areas, cadets enrolled in Naval Science are held to a code of conduct that expects performance
above the average student.
